How hot is the water in my heater?
60° C (140° F) is most manufacturers’ recommended setting and it is usually the factory preset. This temperature works for washing, bathing and bacteria control. However, water at 60° C can scald your skin. If you have elderly people or children in your home or simply prefer a lower temperature, you can contact EnerCare Solutions and have a professional come to your home and lower the temperature for you. Note that you should not lower the temperature below 50° C (122° F).
Is there another way to lower my water temperature?
Some showerheads, faucets and spouts offer a feature that helps prevent scalding by shutting off the water if the temperature exceeds 49° C (120° F). Another safety option is to install a master mixing valve at the hot water line coming out of your heater, which will allow your water to stay at 60° C (140° F), but can deliver water at less than 50° C (122° F).
Can I switch from my current supplier and rent my water heater from EnerCare Solutions instead?
Yes! EnerCare Solutions will install a new rental water heater for you, at no cost. Note that additional installation and material costs may apply if the existing venting or piping is not suitable for installation or if changes need to be made to meet gas code requirements.
What if there's an "exit fee" in my current contract with someone else?
Some rental companies charge their customers an exit fee if you choose to switch. If your contract with your current supplier levies such a fee, you may be obliged to pay it. Going forward, the best way to protect your household from charges levied by other rental companies is to inform yourself with the facts. Can I change the size of my rental water heater?
Yes. You can rent a bigger or smaller water heater, depending on your household needs. If you need more hot water or there’s been a change in family size or lifestyle, simply contact us and EnerCare Solutions will help you find the best option for your needs.
Are rental tanks from EnerCare Solutions energy efficient?
Yes. The tanks installed for our rental program are produced according to the applicable CSA standards. These standards specify the energy efficiency ratings that water heaters must meet. The water heaters we install are also ENERGY STAR qualified, meaning that they consume at least 5 percent less energy than conventional models.
What is a "tankless" water heater?
Sometimes called instantaneous or demand water heaters, “tankless” water heater systems are a relatively new type of water heating solution for homeowners.
