How to Use Your Smarter Home Leak Sensor as a Temperature Sensor

Water leaking near house baseboards

The Enercare Smarter Home Leak Sensor can double as a temperature sensor, sending information to your thermostat and ultimately to the Enercare Smarter Home mobile app. When you select your leak sensor, your Enercare Smarter Home Smart Thermostat will use this temperature reading as a point of reference to heat or cool your home. When selecting your leak sensor along with other temperature sensors in your home, your temperature is averaged between the selected devices and will tell your system to run your heating or cooling based on this average.

Once you have completed the installation of your Enercare Smarter Home Leak Sensor, you will find the available leak sensor listed under ‘devices’ through the Enercare Smarter Home Portal.

Here’s how to use your Enercare Smarter Home Leak Sensor as a temperature sensor

  1. Log into the Enercare Smarter Home Portal.
  2. Select the ‘Temperatures’ card and a list of your active thermostats will be displayed under ‘Devices’.
  3. At the top of the thermostat, click the grey thermometer icon and check off the leak sensor(s) you wish to use. Your temperature system will automatically calibrate and use this sensor as a point of reference for your heating and cooling needs. If more than one box is checked at a time, your thermostat will use the average between the two temperatures.

Using your Enercare Smarter Home Leak Sensor as a temperature sensor in the Enercare Smarter Home mobile app

  1. Log into the Enercare Smarter Home mobile app.
  2. From the menu, select ‘Thermostat’.
  3. Select ‘Temperature Sensors’ and select the leak sensor(s) you wish to activate and then click ‘Save’ at the top right corner. Your temperature system will automatically calibrate and use these sensors as a point of reference for your heating and cooling needs. If more than one box is checked at a time, your thermostat will use the average between the two temperatures as the point of reference.

How to enable temperature averaging for your leak sensors through your set schedules in the Enercare Smarter Home Portal.

  1. Log into the Enercare Smarter Home Portal.
  2. Click on the ‘Temperatures’ card and select ‘Schedules’ located at the top of the screen.
  3. Choose the schedule you wish to add the leak sensor(s) to and click the pencil icon below it.
  4. A pop-up will display with all the available sensors. Select the check-box to the left of the leak sensor(s) you wish to activate and click ‘OK’. Temperature averaging is now enabled for that schedule.

Please note that when your other schedule is turned on, it will automatically overwrite the selection chosen from the thermostat card. This means that if you manually set your home’s temperature to your leak sensor but the schedule is set to the thermostat, once your schedule is enabled it will automatically overwrite the manual selection and link your furnace to the thermostat rather than the leak sensor that was enabled.

How to activate your Enercare Smarter Home Leak Sensor as a temperature sensor through the Enercare Smarter Home Portal
