Common Plumbing Upgrades

Sump pumps, backwater valves and weeping tile are the most common projects eligible for government rebates. They’re also the easiest ways to protect your home from flooding and water damage. Here’s a brief description of what they do:

Sump Pumps

Sump pumps remove excess water from under your home and drain it into a city storm drain or dry well. You may want to consider installing a sump pump if you live in an area prone to flooding or if your basement sits below the water table

Backwater Valves

A backwater valve prevents outbound wastewater from re-entering (or “back-flowing”) into your plumbing. The valve contains a flap that allows water to only flow in one direction – away from your home and into a sewer. Installing a backwater valve could save you thousands of dollars in repairs and cleanup in the case of a flood.

Weeping Tile

A weeping tile (also called a “drain tile” or “perimeter tile”) draws water away from your foundation through a porous plastic pipe. Water flows through the pores in the pipe into a main sewer line. You may want to consider installing a weeping tile if your basement becomes damp after a rainfall or if you want to protect your home’s foundation. Since they are expensive and difficult to replace, you may be eligible for larger rebates.

Still Have Questions? Contact Us for An Inspection.

Sump pumps, backwater valves and weeping tile all prevent water from entering your home, but there are other factors that could cause flooding or water damage to your home. If you’re unsure about whether your home is fully protected, contact Enercare to schedule an inspection from one of our fully licensed plumbers.
