Enercare’s Fresh Start Program
Our corporate social responsibility program that supports families in need of a fresh start.
Giving families in need a Fresh Start
At Enercare, we believe everyone deserves a safe and comfortable home. In 2016, as part of our community commitment, we created the Enercare Fresh StartTM: a program to help families transition from temporary shelters into homes of their own.
In cooperation with local organizations that provide emergency or transitional shelter, we distribute Enercare Fresh StartTM comfort packages to help families get back on their feet. Kits contain simple necessities and small luxuries such as toiletries, linens, kitchen utensils and toys to make sure each family feels confident, safe and prepared to start a new life.
Since Enercare Fresh StartTM began, we’ve provided direct support to more than 175 families in communities throughout Ontario.
Yellow Brick House was the inaugural charity partner of the Enercare Fresh Start Program beginning in 2016. Servicing families in York Region, Yellow Brick House is a leader in the provision of emergency shelter, counseling, transitional housing and supportive services to women and children who have experienced violence and abuse.

Additionally, the Fresh Start employee ambassador team recently funded and managed the installation of a brand new, modern playground structure at their local shelter facility, aiming to bring a little joy to families who are rebuilding their lives after escaping domestic violence and abuse.
Enercare was recently awarded with the Corporate Commitment Award at Yellow Brick House’s annual gala. The award recognizes a corporate partner who has demonstrated their commitment to the organization’s mission and vision of providing support to women and children in York Region.
The Enercare Fresh Start Program has partnered with Toronto-based not-for-profit organization Red Door Family Shelter to support families and individuals in need of a fresh start. Red Door provides emergency shelter and services to families, refugees and women who are fleeing violent situations.
The Enercare Fresh Start Program supports the Red Door Moving Program, which provides basic furniture for families when they move out of the shelter. The programs work together to provide every recipient with personalized Fresh Start packages containing essential items, such as linens and hygiene products, to help vulnerable families settle into their new homes and get the fresh start they deserve after experiencing homelessness, displacement or domestic abuse.
In 2017, the Enercare Fresh Start Program established a partnership with Bethlehem Housing and Support Services, a Niagara based organization that provides affordable housing and support services to individuals and families in Niagara.
Local support is provided by Enercare’s Ontario West team who generously donates their time to package and deliver every Fresh Start kit in addition to volunteering with various community initiatives organized by Bethlehem.
In 2020, Bethlehem will be opening a brand new affordable housing location for clients transitioning out of emergency shelters. The Enercare Fresh Start Program and Ontario West team will fund, package and deliver Fresh Start Welcome Home kits, containing essential household items, to the 127 tenants moving into the facility.
In 2019, the Enercare Fresh Start Program established its fourth partnership with Cornerstone Housing for Women in Ottawa. Cornerstone provides emergency shelter and safe, affordable permanent housing for women in the Ottawa region.
The Enercare Fresh Start Program supports clients of Cornerstone as they transition from supportive to permanent housing after experiencing homelessness. Local support is provided by Enercare’s Ottawa franchise team who funds, packages and delivers the personalized Fresh Start packages to every recipient.
